Blank Street Coffee experienced a significant increase in its UK turnover, soaring by 517% to £11.4 million for the year ending December 31, 2023. The New York-based coffee chain commenced its operations in the UK in June 2022, meaning these results represent its first complete year in the market. Despite recording a net loss of £4.2 million during this period, the loss was attributed to numerous openings and the introduction of new products.

Amy Lamé, Sadiq Khan’s London night czar, is set to step down at the end of the month after eight years in the position. This role, created by Khan following his election as mayor in 2016, aimed to oversee the capital’s nightlife. It remains uncertain whether Lamé’s position will be filled, especially amidst ongoing criticism of the role.

Alan Lorrimer, founder of The Piano Works, has departed from the business following its acquisition by Nightcap earlier this year. Lorrimer was instrumental in creating over 14 concepts, including The Caviar Bar, Porters, and Bar Sol. As part of the acquisition deal, Nightcap has opted to fully integrate The Piano Works’ head office into its existing support team.

Penmaenuchaf in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, has announced the appointment of a new head chef. Dan Andree, who currently holds the same position at Seren’s Oxwich restaurant, Beach House, will succeed Thomas Hine, who is returning to chef contracting.
