Penmaenuchaf in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, has appointed Dan Andree as its new head chef. Currently the head chef at Beach House in Oxwich, Andree will take over from Thomas Hine, who is returning to chef contracting.
During his tenure at Beach House, Andree has served as right-hand man to chef director Hywel Griffith, significantly enhancing the restaurant’s tasting menus over the past few years. Since joining in 2020, he has played a crucial role in helping the restaurant maintain its Michelin Star, which it first earned in 2019. This year, he was a semi-finalist for the UK National Chef of the Year 2024 and a finalist in the Wales Chef of the Year 2023 competition, where he also won the “Best Dish” award.
Reflecting on his new role, Andree expressed enthusiasm about relocating to North Wales and leading the culinary team at Penmaenuchaf. He aims to leverage his experience from Beach House to create memorable dining experiences, emphasizing high-quality ingredients and locally sourced produce. He looks forward to collaborating with the talented team and local producers to craft exquisite dishes that highlight Welsh ingredients.
Hywel Griffith praised Andree’s growth since joining Beach House in early 2020, noting his significant contribution to maintaining product consistency. Griffith expressed excitement for Andree’s new position at Penmaenuchaf and looks forward to visiting him in North Wales.
