London’s vegan restaurant Mildreds has announced its much-anticipated reopening following a significant renovation.
The eatery closed two months ago to undertake a complete refurbishment of the Grade II listed building on Lexington Street in Soho.
The revamped Mildreds townhouse features enhanced space, including an 18-seater private dining area and event space on the second floor, making it perfect for Christmas parties.
Now offering dining across three floors, the new Mildreds showcases uniquely designed areas with vibrant colors, a lush array of plants, and layers of artwork accumulated over the last 35 years. The building’s exterior has been transformed to blue, with striking orange window frames and new Mildreds signage.
The bar has been expanded and reimagined, adorned with coral paint and red gloss trims, complemented by a “modern renaissance” mural. Each section of the restaurant boasts its own distinct wallpaper and color theme, enhancing the fresh interiors.
Mildreds is set to reopen on 16 October, and diners at the Soho location will receive a complimentary cocktail with their meal until October 31.
Mildreds CEO Sam Anstey expressed pride in reopening the Soho location, stating: “We’ve been trailblazers of plant-based food for decades, and our home has always been in Soho, the heart of London’s most vibrant district. I look forward to welcoming back our loyal customers and new guests alike.”
He added, “The Lexington Street venue has been lovingly re-imagined with bold colors and a gallery of special paintings, and we’ve created a separate floor for private events, perfect for Christmas gatherings and intimate get-togethers. Welcome back to the new Mildreds!”
Mildreds first opened its doors in Soho in 1988 to offer vegetarian cuisine that was “anything but bland or boring.” Since then, it has gained international recognition as one of the most influential pioneers of vegetarian and vegan cuisine, serving as the heart of plant-based food innovation in the UK.
In the past 35 years, Mildreds has expanded beyond Soho, establishing additional locations in Covent Garden, Camden Town, Kings Cross, Dalston, and Victoria.
Sarah Wasserman, Head of Food Development at Mildreds, noted, “Mildred’s food philosophy has always centered on showcasing the freshest and most vibrant ingredients available in plant-based cooking. Whether you follow a vegan diet or not, my team and I have always focused on creating amazing, innovative dishes that are simply great-tasting vegan food.”
She continued, “Inspired by international cuisine, our new menus include diverse collections of fresh ingredients. We take pride in being a destination for food lovers, and our recently launched autumn menu features seasonal flavors while bringing back guest favorites like the popular mushroom and ale pie.”
Wasserman concluded, “Mildreds has encouraged generations of both vegans and non-vegans to explore delicious, flavorful food, and this tradition will continue at our beloved Soho location.”
