London’s renowned vegan restaurant Mildreds is set to reopen after a major renovation that took two months to complete. The Grade II listed building on Lexington Street, Soho, has undergone a complete refurbishment.
The revamped Mildreds now features a redesigned townhouse, offering more space along with a new second-floor private dining area that seats 18—ideal for Christmas parties. Dining is now available across three floors, with uniquely styled spaces boasting vibrant colors, an abundance of plants, and layers of artwork accumulated over 35 years. The exterior has been painted deep blue with orange window frames and new signage.
The bar area has been expanded and redesigned with coral paint and red gloss accents, showcasing a modern renaissance mural. Each section of the restaurant is adorned with different wallpaper and color schemes, enhancing the fresh interiors. Mildreds will officially reopen on Wednesday, October 16, and diners will receive a complimentary cocktail until October 31.
Mildreds’ CEO, Sam Anstey, expressed pride in the restaurant’s legacy as a pioneer of plant-based dining, stating, “Our home has always been Soho, the heart of London’s most vibrant district. I look forward to welcoming back our loyal customers as well as new guests alike.” Anstey emphasized that the refreshed venue features bold colors and a gallery of special artwork, along with a dedicated space for private events.
Since its inception in 1988, Mildreds has gained international acclaim as a leader in vegetarian and vegan cuisine, deeply rooted in UK food innovation. Over the years, it has attracted famous patrons like Sir Paul McCartney, David Walliams, Anne Hathaway, and many more.
Mildreds has expanded beyond Soho, with locations in Covent Garden, Camden Town, Kings Cross, Dalston, and Victoria, each known for exceptional hospitality and a menu that draws from global culinary influences. The restaurant stands out for its adventurous culinary approach, thanks to the in-house development team led by Creative Director Sarah Wasserman, who is committed to delivering innovative, delicious vegan dishes.
Wasserman noted, “Mildred’s food philosophy celebrates the freshest, most vibrant ingredients available in plant-based cooking. Whether a diner is vegan or not, our aim is to create innovative food that is simply great-tasting.” She highlighted the inspiration drawn from international cuisine in crafting new menus, as well as the recent launch of an autumn menu that showcases seasonal flavors, including the much-loved mushroom and ale pie.
The ethos of Mildreds is straightforward: to provide fantastic food and drink for everyone, with an emphasis on plant-based options, paired with a dynamic all-day menu that evolves with the seasons. The restaurant is currently accepting bookings for Christmas gatherings and events, and it is set to release its new autumn menu featuring returning favorites like the Mushroom Ale Pot Pie.
Additionally, for those interested in recreating Mildreds’ delectable dishes at home, the restaurant offers a range of bestselling cookbooks, with plans for further releases to ensure that incredible vegan food is accessible to everyone.
