Community-focused food initiative School Kitchen has announced the opening of its second UK site in Chiswick, West London, set to debut on 25th October 2024.
School Kitchen collaborates with local schools to utilize their kitchens, transforming an underused asset into an eco-friendly food service where schools earn a share of the revenue. The initiative first launched in York in March 2024.
SK Chiswick will provide dine-in and takeaway options, featuring dishes from a variety of world cuisines, including Sri Lankan (Pirivena) and Mexican (Quetzalcoatl). The menu will include Sunday Brunch, Sunday Lunch, and a new ‘School Dinners’ offering.
The restaurant will operate Monday to Friday from 6pm to 11pm, Saturday from 12pm to 11pm, and Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Initially, Monday and Tuesday will be bar service only, and the restaurant will only offer takeaways on Saturday.
The newly renovated venue is located at the Cricket Pavilion within the Latymer Upper School Sports Grounds, and a portion of all profits will be directed to the Latymer Foundation to support local schools and community educational projects.
In addition to dining services, School Kitchen will extend match hospitality for Latymer sports fixtures and the two on-site sports clubs: Richmond Hockey Club and Polytechnic Football Club.
David Nicholson, CEO and Founder of School Kitchen, expressed excitement about the London launch, highlighting the positive feedback received from their initial York location. He noted that the dine-in service would enhance opportunities for interaction and enjoyment of quality food.
Coinciding with the grand opening is the introduction of the ‘School Dinners’ menu, featuring collaborations with celebrity chefs such as Matt Tebbutt, Mitch Tonks, Nadiya Hussain, Omar Allibhoy, Richard Corrigan, Tommy Banks, and Will Lockwood. This nostalgic menu aims to take diners back to their school days, with modern interpretations of traditional meals reimagined by top talent, offering a blend of comfort and innovation.
Importantly, all profits from the School Dinners menu will fund free school breakfasts for children at partner schools like Carr Junior School in York and others within the South Bank Multi Academy Trust.
The menu will include dishes such as:
- Tommy Banks’ Roast hogget meatballs in a creamy cep sauce
- Matt Tebbutt’s Toad in the Hole
- Neil Meyer’s Beef hash
- Mitch Tonks’ Fish Pie
- Will Lockwood’s Tomato and chicken hot pot
- Nadiya Hussain’s Cardamom rice pudding from British Food Adventure
- Omar Allibhoy’s Crema Catalana
- Richard Corrigan’s Apple Pie
David Nicholson commented on the partnership with esteemed chefs, emphasizing the fusion of nostalgia and gourmet cuisine, creating a unique dining experience that supports the mission of food for good.
Customers in York can also order gourmet school meals through the new campaign for delivery, with plans for this menu availability in future School Kitchen locations.
